Lancashire based artist Jane Fairhurst and Yorkshire based artist Kathryn Oubridge are currently working collaboratively to set up a Pan-Pennine project, [Dis]Connect, to exhibit work from selected artists at venues based on either side of the Pennines.
[Dis]Connect will invite artists to submit their work through a series of opportunities to be advertised in a-n, Art in Liverpool, The Art Guide and others. Works will be selected by an invited panel of gallery curators to be shown concurrently at venues in Lancashire (OK Studios Gallery) and Yorkshire (tba) during November 2012. The theme and content, format and objectives of the shows will be wholly bound together.
Fairhurst, chair and director of Office Kollective Studios, Wigan and Oubridge, based here at East Street Arts in Leeds, aim to develop a dialogue and network between artists and curators based in the North of England and to also add a new opportunity particularly for Northern based artists.
Building upon the innovative work of groups like Bloc Studios, Yorkshire Artspace,Green Close Studios and The Royal Standard, Liverpool, [Dis]Connect will provide another platform for art in the North.
The shift in focus for artists towards the North of England through The Northern Art Prize and The Liverpool Art Prize is providing a much needed platform for artists living and working in the Northern regions and is beginning to draw more attention to the region from elsewhere in the country. This project looks to draw on that momentum.
[Dis]Connect 2012 will operate as a pilot project with the potential for further development in future years, broadening networks and connections in the region and beyond.
